Bellagio MGM, Shanghai: High-Performance Lighting for an Art Deco Icon
1 December 2017
The Bellagio Shanghai is a premier architectural landmark on the North Bund, blending 1920s Art Deco elegance with a high-performance modern technical standard. For the 2017 completion, LUCITAG was selected to supply specialized linear systems for the property’s most high-stakes social and culinary zones: the multi-functional grand hall and it’s signature restaurant.
Engineered Effects: The "Feather" Hall
The hotel's grand hall serves as a prestigious stage for exclusive ceremonies and luxury brands events. The design brief required a specific "feather-like" light distribution across the vertical wall panels and vaulted ceiling. To execute this, we supplied our STRIP Collection model, the Flex Milky Slim.
Unlike standard LED products that produce visible hot-spots, the Flex Milky Slim uses a high-density, diffuse optic to create a soft, weightless texture. This system was also integrated directly into the structural architecture, mounted both on the walls and under the marble steps of the grand staircase. This achieved a "floating" effect that prioritizes the luxury aesthetic without visible hardware.
Integrated Dining & Hospitality Supply
In the restaurant area, the focus shifted to highlighting premium materials and culinary excellence. For these zones, we supplied the GRAZE Collection model, the MP LINEAR AC. By utilizing the MP LINEAR AC, we emphasized the richness of the interior finishes. Specified at 3000K with a CRI of 90+, these luminaires ensure that the textures of the restaurant and the colors of the buffet presentations maintain their natural depth and vibrancy. This professional-grade illumination ensures a cohesive, five-star visual experience from the restaurant reception to the dining table.
The Bellagio Shanghai project highlights LUCITAG’s ability to deliver high-fidelity lighting solutions that meet the rigorous aesthetic and technical demands of the luxury hospitality sector. By balancing the soft, atmospheric diffusion of our STRIP Collection with the sharp architectural precision of our GRAZE Collection, we successfully created an environment that honors the property’s heritage while performing to modern global standards.
