The transformation of Conrad Singapore Orchard marks a milestone in luxury hospitality lighting. Completed in 2023, the renovation revitalized one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks—the open-atrium hotel originally designed by John Portman. Guided by Lighting Planners Associates (LPA), a globally recognized leader in architectural lighting design, the project redefined the hotel’s classical identity into a contemporary environment where materials, architecture, and layered illumination work seamlessly together.
At the heart of the project, more than 4,100 units of LUCITAG ARCHI DOWNLIGHT 68 were installed across guest rooms, restaurants, corridors, washrooms, and entrances, establishing a consistent ambient lighting framework throughout the hotel.

One of the main technical challenges was upgrading lighting performance while maintaining full compatibility with the hotel’s legacy Phase Dimming and 0–10V systems. LUCITAG’s engineering team conducted extensive redesign and stability testing, optimizing the internal circuitry of each luminaire to eliminate flicker and ensure consistent dimming across atrium galleries, open corridors, and lift areas.
In the restaurant interiors, the lighting scheme was engineered to balance guest comfort with premium culinary presentation. A deliberate visual hierarchy was established, with tabletop illumination reaching 400 lux to highlight the dining experience, while circulation areas transition to a softer 300 lux to maintain a relaxed ambient atmosphere. To optimize the visual appeal of the cuisine, the project utilizes dual-temperature zoning. 3000K warm-toned lighting is strategically placed to enhance the richness of warm dishes, while 4000K neutral lighting preserves the vibrant, crisp appearance of fresh displays. To ensure total color fidelity, High-CRI>90 fixtures were specified throughout, accurately rendering the authentic textures and natural palettes of the culinary offerings.

Flexible accent lighting was introduced in gallery corridors and selected restaurant areas using LUCITAG TRACK SPOT 68 luminaires. These fixtures can be easily repositioned along the track system, allowing designers to adapt the lighting to changing art displays or evolving spatial layouts.
Architectural features are further highlighted through linear and grazing lighting. At the lobby entrance, 35 meters our the GRAZE SMART COVE emphasize geometric surfaces with a high-CRI glow. Externally, more than 450 meters of the STRIP Collection – FLEX SLIM TOP BENDED trace the building’s distinctive silhouette with continuous, dot-free illumination, defining the façade with precision after dark.
Through custom engineering and a layered lighting strategy, LUCITAG successfully integrated modern LED technology within a historic hospitality landmark. The Conrad Singapore Orchard now demonstrates how contemporary architectural lighting can enhance heritage architecture while delivering a technically precise, visually consistent, and refined guest experience.
